We chose this early emphasis in part due to a need and opportunity locally for this type of learning as well as
believing and embracing the Montessori philosophy.  We create a large, safe, nurturing environment that
encourages infants and toddlers to explore their surroundings and build self-confidence.

The infant environment conforms to the physical needs of the children. It is equipped with customized stands,
stairs, and bars babies use for pulling-up exercises. The sleeping area is isolated and quiet, with an
individual area for each child. Montessori materials and equipment are especially designed to help little
muscles develop coordination, helping the child gain independence and self esteem. Special attention is
given to the development of expressive and comprehensive language skills.

The infant and toddler classrooms are bright and cheerful, with space for children to move freely. There is
room for large motor skill activity, imaginative play, learning, quiet activity and resting. Outside play areas
include ample room to run in a safe environment.

Our classrooms provide a prepared environment where infants and toddlers explore their space naturally in
their own way and at their own pace. This is another area where Montessori may differ from other schools of
thought. While there is a definite focus on learning, each child is given a chance at individuality and can
learn at a pace that suits them. Not every infant or toddler is ready for the same activities at the same time
and that is not only acceptable, but is part of the foundation of the environment.

The prepared environment is characterized by order, simplicity and beauty which meet the needs of the
child. The focus of the infant and toddler environments is on fostering basic trust in the child. The children
learn concentration, order, sequence, and skills adapted to their culture with practical life. The exercises of
practical life are fundamental for the child’s development because it supports tendencies and needs of young
children.

At Montessori Beginnings we provide a nurturing environment where the child learns and gets a feeling of
dignity, accomplishment, and self confidence.
